Christmas day...

Jenny, Brad and Amelia and Jenny's dad came over to mom and dad's and we all had a very yummy brunch together. Very yummy. Egg casserole, brown sugar bacon, cinammon rolls. Jenny's dad made a mexican egg casserole thing that i can't remember the name of. It was all very good. Then, after a long wait, the kids opened their presents. We had a nice afternoon of hanging out and talking. Then, the kids and Barry and I took naps. We then got read for Aunt Barb's house that night. We loaded up the car with the food and headed out to see the family on my mom's side.
I didn't take any pictures there this year. In fact, I did a bad job of capturing Christmas in photos this year! I guess I just relaxed alot about it. I wish I would have taken a few more. Oh well. :) It was nice catching up with the cousins and aunts and uncles. I always look forward to it.

deer...

We enjoyed seeing the deer roaming across the river from my parents windows on Christmas day. There are always deer around, even walking through the water in the summer. Aren't they pretty. So peaceful.

Santa gifts.

Santa brought Sydney Littlest Pet Shop

and Better Batter Baseball for Sawyer.

Isn't it amazing that Santa knows exactly where you are, even when you travel away from home? How does he do that?

Christmas Eve night

We went to Aunt Sherry's and Uncle Tom's house on Christmas eve. This is a longtime tradition in our family. My cousin and her family were there, my mom and dad, my brother and his family, along with my aunt and uncle. We ate and talked. Then, the kids realized that Santa left a gift on the driveway for them. This was after alot of dramatization on my cousin and aunt's part. They love it when Santa visits! :) The kids opened their treasures from Santa. These pictures turned out terrible. I think my camera was on the wrong setting and by the time I fixed it, the moment was over. Oh well. You can barely see my niece Amelia in the bottom left corner.

Christmas Eve

We woke up Christmas Eve and had a relaxing morning. After we all got cleaned up, we opened gifts. We started with their stockings and then moved to the other gifts. They had a lot of fun and it went fast! Sydney and Sawyer both got watches, socks, gum, and a pad of paper in their stockings. They got various things from us. Together they got a bowling set and a Cars game box with several games inside. Sydney loved her cars race track and Sawyer loved his Mack Truck. Sydney got some books, clothes for her baby alive, and scrabble jr. Sawyer got some play-doh, a leapster game, some balls, and a street hockey set. We had some nice family time before we packed up the car to head out to grandma and grandpa's in Indiana.

It was hard for the kids to leave their gifts behind! They packed some up to take. Santa was to deliver his gifts to g&g's house for Christmas morning. So, they had more to come.

movie night

It is hard to seperate a late December birthday from Christmas and all the craziness of the season. I feel bad for Sawyer sometimes, even though he doesn't realize it yet. We chose his birthday to be on the 21st of December (c-section) after much deliberation. I didn't know which would be better, a birthday before Christmas or after. I thought that before would be better because then it wouldn't be an afterthought, something that was just another thing to do. Yet, I think before is just as bad, maybe even worse, because ALL thoughts are on what is left to finish before Christmas and what has been left undone, the wrapping that needs to be completed, etc. We chose the furthest date that we could before Christmas, but I secretly somewhat wish we would have chosen Dec 30th which would have been the furthest after Christmas. Then, all the craziness would be over. The agony of choosing your child's birthdate! If you have not had a planned c-section before, it is a weird thing to choose and know the exact date of your child's birthday. We didn't choose Sydney's day because I went into labor and it ended in a c-section on the 24th of June. I think it must be so much easier to choose a day in any other month than December. Am I making too big a deal of this? We are going to try to make Sawyer's day special, no matter what. When we got together with the Jones side for Christmas, there was a Cars cake for him and we sang happy birthday.

On the day of his birthday the four of us went to the movie theater for the first time together! It was a very fun and special evening. We started by having dinner at McDonalds. This was chosen more for time factor than anything, but Sawyer enjoyed it immensly.

Here we are in the row enjoying the previews and our snacks. Barry and I have never been to the movies with Sydney either! Aunt Laura always took her for the new movies in the theater. Those were the "Aunt Laura" days, until baby emma came along! ;) And it was Sawyer's first movie. As you all can understand, we'd never set foot in a theater with him. It was too scary to do that! But, now that he's three, we figured he could handle sitting there.

We watched the movie "Bolt". It was funny and the kids really liked it.

We have had his birthday party in January every year. We are a little late this year, since his party will be in two weeks. It is nice to have it seperated and have something fun happening in January. His party theme will be Tonka trucks. He loves Tonka trucks and has quite a collection going. I don't know why, but it took me a long time to think of a theme. Finally it hit me! He's going to love it.

Sawyer's birthday...

After church on Sundays we are frequent visitors to either Panera Bread or to Jimmy Johns. On Sawyer's birthday on the 21st, we ate out at Jimmy John's! YUM. They make the BEST sub sandwiches. The bread...oh so fresh. The meat is shaved right in the food prep area and is unbelievably yummy. I only wish I could make sandwiches such as these at home. There is flair all over the walls in the form of metal signs with fun sayings on them. Oh, and i forgot to mention the crispy chips that are oh so crunchy. Delish! Sawyer was greatly enjoying his sandwich.

children's programs

The kids had their children's Christmas program back on the 21st of Dec. Sydney's group performed a song using their bells and also sang a song. Sawyer's group sang a song. They had fun and enjoyed performing for the crowd. I love to watch the kids up front. Unfortunately we didn't have a good seat this year. We arrived early, but there were so many seats saved that we couldn't get very close at all! And it was nearly impossible to get a picture of Sydney because the boy on her right was very animated and kept stepping forward blocking our view! Hopefully next year we can get a better seat!
