Mackinac Island
We went to Mackinac Island over the weekend. This was our first trip that we've been by ourselves, just the four of us! We always have family or friends with us. Or, it is just Barry and I without the kids. We took a last minute trip, even leaving without hotel reservations. This is something we've never done before. So, on the way up, we made reservations and ate dinner. It was 9:00 before we arrived at the hotel. Unfortunately we couldn't see the beautiful colors on the way up. It would have to wait until morning.
We checked into our room that had a king bed in one room and two queens in another! Sydney and Sawyer felt like royalty. :) Sydney just couldn't get enough of her bed. She loved it.
After a good nights sleep we woke up, stepped out of our room full of excitement for the day, into rain, fog, and chilly weather! We couldn't even see the bridge because of the fog. After breakfast, we left for the ferry. With umbrellas in our hands, we boarded the "Catch the Cat"ferry and rode across the straits to the island. I was so disappointed as we stepped off the docks and I realized that it was quite chilly and my shorts were innappropriate. :)
Barry didn't seem to mind. Sawyer had a warm fuzzy jacket and also wore shorts, and he didn't seem to mind either. We headed for the bike rentals and took off around the island. We biked around the island and took in the breathtaking views. In one area the water was a crystal clear blue. It was gorgeous.
After that, we had lunch, walked around, bought fudge, went to the playground at the school, and then went and had coffee. All in all, it was a good visit. It ended too early as we boarded the 5:00 ferry to go home, just as the beautiful sun came out and warmed up the island.

Great family photo. I love how Sawyer isn't wearing any shoes. :)

He's impossible! He still doesn't like shoes. Now that it is cold and he doesn't wear his crocs much, he is in tennis shoes and socks. Last night while sitting in the restaurant he took both his shoes and his socks off. UGH! He's always fighting to get them off.
When we took this picture it was right before we left and was warm...probably almost 70 degrees. So, at least he wasn't getting frostbite. hee hee.
