anniversary weekend...

We headed down to Indiana on our anniversary, the 29th. On Friday, we left the kids with my mom and headed for Middlebury to celebrate our anniversary. We stopped for lunch at the very yummy Lucchese's. They have the MOST DELICIOUS dipping oil and fabulous bread to go with it. I just can't have enough of it when we go there. As you can see, i used all of mine in the bowl above. The mug shot of Barry was taken against his wishes while he was playing with his blackberry. I had the BLT salad. YUM.
We arrived at the Das Dutchman Essenhaus and checked in. We made a last minute change and were able to book a room at the Daudy Haus. We thought that the Daudy Haus had closed and didn't try to book it in advance, but were excited to realize that we were mistaken. It feels more like a bed and breakfast, and we much prefer it to the hotel. We were unable to get the same room that we stayed in after our wedding and on our first anniversary, but we still liked our room there.
After checking in, we walked around looking in the shops. Then, we debated about playing mini-golf, but opted for a nap instead. So nice!

We then prepared to go to dinner. Of course it rained that evening (as it had on our first anniversary) so we had to drive to the restaurant instead of walk across the pretty grounds. We ate family style which was delicious. They offer like 29 different kinds of pies and I chose the strawberry, while Barry chose chocolate cream. Mine was to die for. The food is just so good there!

After dinner we took a drive. (There is not much to do in Middlebury!) We drove through town and then looking through some neighborhoods. They have some very pretty homes and landscapes. The neighborhoods that we found were up in the hills and wooded. Very nice compared to the flat ones you usually find. We were able to find my college roomates home and we stopped by unexpectedly. Imagine Steph and Mark's surprise when we rang their doorbell. We haven't seen them since before Sydney was born...probably about 6 years ago. It was a fun surprise. They did let us in their house and gave us a mini-tour. After a quick catching up, we took off. We didn't want to stay too long since we randomly stopped by and her parents were over. I am glad we stopped and intruded on their night though. It has been too long!

We drove back to the room and enjoyed the quiet evening! After a good nights rest, we had breakfast and headed back to my parents' home. It was a wonderful time away, just the two of us.
